Mara founded Ridgewood Tattoo after years of working in New York shops and building a practice centered on black and grey, larger compositions, and custom design. She grew up with family across Queens and Brooklyn and still keeps a sketchbook of storefront lettering, old signs, and architectural details she notices while walking around the city.
Jonah focuses on fineline, illustrative work, and carefully composed color pieces. He came to tattooing through drawing and printmaking, and he is the person on the team most likely to spend his day off looking through old botanical books or photographing interesting shadows for future reference.
Kiara handles piercing appointments and helps keep the studio's day-to-day communication organized. She is especially interested in balanced ear arrangements and practical placement, and she has a habit of keeping detailed notes about neighborhood coffee spots for clients who ask where to go before or after an appointment.
We start with the part of the idea that matters most to you, then work outward from there. That may mean reviewing references, comparing placements, simplifying a drawing, choosing a palette, or deciding whether a large project should be broken into several sessions. The goal is to settle the important decisions before the tattoo begins.
During appointments, we keep communication simple. Ask to see the placement again, ask why something changed, or tell us if you need a break. Good tattooing depends on technical skill, but a good studio experience also depends on people being able to speak plainly to one another.
